If you are between 18 and 35 years old and struggling to find work, the MRTT Learnership 2026 could be your next step. This is not just another training programme. It is a 12-month practical course that teaches real skills you can use immediately. But you must act fast. The closing date is 29 May 2026, and you need to submit your documents in person.
What Is This Learnership?
The Mpumalanga Regional Training Trust is offering 66 positions for unemployed youth. The programme starts on 8 June 2026. You will receive accredited training in one of three fields.
The three streams are Building and Civil Construction (Painting) at NQF Level 3, Building and Civil Construction (Carpentry) at NQF Level 3, and Mixed Farming Systems at NQF Level 2. Each stream takes 22 learners. You will not sit in a classroom all day. You will learn by doing. This means you gain practical experience that employers notice.
Can You Apply?
Before you prepare your documents, check if you meet the requirements. You must:
- Be between 18 and 35 years old
- Have passed at least Grade 11
- Be currently unemployed
- Live in Wakkerstroom, Volksrust, or Amersfoort
Many young people worry that they need a matric certificate to qualify. You do not. Grade 11 is enough. However, you must have proof of your qualification. You also need to be resident in the Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Local Municipality area, as training happens locally.
What Skills Will You Learn?
This is a practical programme. You will work with your hands and learn skills that communities need.
Painting Stream
You will learn surface preparation, safety on construction sites, and proper painting techniques. These skills can help you find work in housing projects, building maintenance, or start your own small painting service.
Carpentry Stream
You will study woodwork fundamentals, measuring, cutting, and basic roof structures. Carpentry allows you to build furniture, repair homes, or work on construction sites. Some learners use these skills to start their own businesses after training.
Mixed Farming Stream
You will learn crop production, livestock care, soil preparation, and sustainable farming. If you live in a rural area, these skills help you work on farms, start small agricultural projects, or join farming cooperatives.
Remember: completing this learnership does not guarantee you a job. But it gives you an accredited qualification. This makes you more employable than someone with no experience.
How to Submit Your Application
You cannot email or fax your documents. You must hand-deliver them. This is important. Many applicants miss deadlines because they wait until the last day and face long queues.
Step 1: Prepare your documents. You need:
- A clear Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- A certified copy of your ID
- Certified copies of your qualifications
- Proof that you live in the area (proof of residence)
- Proof of your Grade 11 certificate or higher
Step 2: Certify your documents now. Do not wait until 29 May. Take your original documents and copies to a police station or commissioner of oaths. They must stamp and sign each copy.
Step 3: Hand-deliver your documents to one of these three offices before 29 May 2026:
- Wakkerstroom Administration Unit, Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Local Municipality, Wakkerstroom
- Volksrust Administration Unit, Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Local Municipality, Volksrust
- Amersfoort Administration Unit, Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Local Municipality, Amersfoort
Keep copies of everything you submit. Write down the date you delivered them and who received them if possible.
How to Stand Out
Only 66 people will be chosen. Competition is high. Here is how to improve your chances:
Be early. Do not submit on 29 May. Offices get busy. Documents go missing. Submit in the first week of May if you can.
Check your CV twice. Include your contact details, education history, and any experience. Even informal work counts. If you helped a neighbor paint their house, mention it. If you worked on a family farm, write it down. Be honest, but show you are ready to work.
Look professional. Hand in a neat file or envelope. Crumpled papers create a bad impression.
Show commitment. In your CV or cover letter, explain why you chose your specific stream. If you pick farming, say why agriculture matters to you. This shows you have thought about your future.
Take Action Today
You have until 29 May 2026 to submit your application. Training starts on 8 June 2026. This gives you enough time to gather documents, but only if you start now.
Many young people feel stuck because they lack experience. This learnership solves that problem. It gives you 12 months of practical training, a qualification, and a chance to build a future in construction or farming.
If you meet the requirements and live in Wakkerstroom, Volksrust, or Amersfoort, prepare your documents this week. Walk to the municipal office and submit them in person. Your future self will thank you for taking this step today.
