Time is running out to secure funding for your university or college studies – the Promaths Bursary Fund closes its application window on 5 October, and many eligible students still need to act now.
What is the Promaths Bursary Fund?
The bursary is run by StudyTrust and paid for by Investec. It supports former learners of the Promaths and Kutlwanong Maths, Science and Technology Centres who want to continue into a rare‑skills degree or national diploma at a recognised South African tertiary institution.
Who can apply?
- South African citizen
- Alumni of Promaths or a Kutlwanong Centre
- Accepted to study at a South African university, college or TVET institution
- Enrolling in a “rare skills” qualification (e.g., medicine, aviation, engineering, commerce) or a national diploma in a similar field
- Demonstrate both academic merit and financial need
What you gain
- Financial assistance that can cover tuition, fees or other study costs
- Support to stay on track for a high‑demand career where skilled professionals are scarce
- Recognition as a Promaths graduate, adding strength to your CV
- Potential access to additional mentoring and career‑guidance services
How to apply – step by step
- Gather the required documents (ID copy, latest results, matric results if you have them, proof of acceptance or registration, full academic record, household income proof, proof of Promaths/Kutlwanong participation, and a personal motivation statement).
- Visit the official application page at StudyTrust – Promaths Bursary Fund and create an account.
- Complete the online form, uploading each document in the requested format.
- Review all information carefully, then submit before the 5 October deadline.
- Keep a copy of the confirmation email for your records.
Tips to improve your chances
- Show clear evidence of academic achievement in maths and science – include any extra‑curricular projects or awards.
- Write a personal motivation that explains how Promaths helped you, why the chosen qualification matters, and how you will give back to your community.
- Double‑check that your chosen course fits the “rare skills” definition; if unsure, contact the CareerXplora platform for guidance.
- Submit early to avoid last‑minute technical problems.
- Provide accurate and up‑to‑date financial information; incomplete income proof can delay processing.
