If you want to start a nursing career this year, the Gauteng Department of Health has opened its 2027 Gauteng College of Nursing intake for residents of Gauteng — but the window closes on 26 September 2026, so you must act now.
What the opportunity is
The College is offering a three‑year Diploma in Nursing (NQF Level 6). Successful students will study at one of four campuses – Ann Latsky, Bonalesedi, Chris Hani Baragwanath or S.G. Lourens – and will combine classroom learning with hands‑on clinical practice in Gauteng hospitals and clinics.
Who can apply
You must be a South African citizen living in Gauteng. You also need an accepted school‑leaving qualification, which can be:

- National Senior Certificate
- National Certificate Vocational in Primary Health

Subject requirements differ by qualification:
- Senior Certificate: English, Biology and Mathematics at Higher Grade D or Standard Grade C, plus an M‑score of at least 17.
- National Senior Certificate: English Level 4, Life Sciences Level 4, Mathematics Level 4 (or Mathematics Literacy Level 5), and an Admission Point Score of at least 27. Life Orientation counts for half its normal points.
- National Certificate Vocational: Minimum 50 % in the fundamental subjects and 60 % in the vocational subjects (South African Health Care System, Public Health, The Human Body and Mind, Community‑Oriented Primary Care).
