What the MISA internship is about

Who can apply
You must be an unemployed South African graduate with a relevant National Diploma at NQF 6 or a Degree at NQF 7. Your field of study must match the stream you choose. Check the qualification title and NQF level printed on your certificate. Studying in an administration department does not automatically mean your award fits every administration stream.
Match your qualification against these fields before you choose a route:
- Human Resource Management and Human Resource Development appear in two streams covering eight places. One of these streams also lists Public Management specialising in Local Government. Compare your exact award with both the Human Resource Management and Development stream and the Capacity Building stream before you decide.
- Another stream lists Public Administration, Public Management, Governance Studies and Business Administration.
- The Infrastructure Assessment and Analysis stream lists Public Administration, Office Administration and Management. This is a useful route if you studied administration or management.
- A finance-focused stream lists Internal Auditing, BCom and Accounting Sciences.
The NQF 6 Diploma or NQF 7 Degree rule applies to all the fields above. Make the link between your qualification and your chosen stream easy to see in your CV.
There is one important warning. The notice describes Public Service internships as a once-off opportunity per qualification, and previous internship participants will not be considered. If you have completed an internship before, ask recruitment about your eligibility before you spend time applying.
What you gain
This internship gives you paid workplace experience at a national public entity, with a monthly stipend of R8 174.75. MISA supports municipalities with infrastructure planning, implementation, operations and maintenance, so you learn how government infrastructure support works from the inside. You also build references, work habits and public service exposure that help with future applications. The programme is labelled 2026–2028, but exact contract dates are not stated in the notice, so confirm them with recruitment.
Which reference and email address should you use?
Every stream has its own reference and email address, and the full list appears in the official notice. For example, Infrastructure Assessment and Analysis uses reference MISA/IAA/04. Keep the reference, the Z83 position details and the destination email together so nothing gets mixed up.
What belongs in your first submission
- A fully completed and signed new Z83
- A recent, detailed CV with contactable referees, including both phone numbers and email addresses
You do not need qualification copies or other supporting documents at this stage. Shortlisted candidates will be asked for certified qualifications and proof of permanent residence, along with any other recruitment requests.
Review your CV for clear qualification names, accurate dates and working contact details. Open your final files to confirm that every page and your Z83 signature are visible. Many applicants struggle with blurry scans or missing signatures, and these small errors can cost them a place.
How to apply step by step
- Choose the stream that matches your qualification and read its instructions in the official MISA internship notice.
- Download the new Z83 form. Complete it accurately, initial where indicated, and sign and date the declaration.
- Prepare your recent comprehensive CV with referees who can be reached by phone and email. Check that the stream and reference on the form match your chosen opportunity.
- Email your pack to the correct stream address and quote the reference clearly. A useful subject line for the administration route is MISA/IAA/04 – Infrastructure Assessment and Analysis Internship.
- Check the recipient, reference and attachments one last time, then send before 2 November 2026. Keep your sent email and a copy of the completed pack.
For stream enquiries, contact To The T Recruitment on 010 102 3607. For general enquiries, call Mr Nkosikhona Zuma or Ms Gugu Gumede on 012 848 5364 / 5337 / 5401.
Tips to improve your chances
- Prepare a separate pack for each reference. The Z83 identifies one specific position, so sending each pack to its own mailbox keeps your applications clear.
- Keep your information consistent. Shortlisted candidates undergo suitability checks covering criminal records, citizenship, financial records and qualifications, so your Z83 and CV must match the facts.
- Apply before the last day. Email systems fail, files get corrupted, and a day of buffer protects your effort.
- Proofread everything. A correct qualification title and a clear subject line make it easy for recruiters to place you in the right stream.
Questions to settle before you send
- Do you need certified documents now? No. The first submission only needs the signed new Z83 and your CV. Certified qualifications and proof of permanent residence are requested at shortlisting.
- Does a past internship exclude you? The notice calls this a once-off opportunity per qualification and excludes previous internship participants. Ask recruitment how the rule applies to your history before assuming a different qualification creates an exception.
- When does the contract start? The notice labels the programme 2026–2028 but does not give exact dates. Confirm the start and appointment period with recruitment before making longer-term plans.
- Will you hear back? Correspondence is limited to shortlisted candidates. If you are not contacted within three months after the closing date, the guidance is to regard your submission as unsuccessful.
Your next steps
Competition for 14 places will be firm, and no outcome can be promised. What you can control is a complete, honest and on-time application. Match your qualification to a stream, check your internship history, complete the new Z83, pair the correct reference with its mailbox, and email your signed form and CV before 2 November 2026.
While you prepare your pack, you can also compare other internship opportunities to plan your next career step. One careful submission this week could open the door to two years of public service experience.
