Finding your first job in South Africa is hard when every advert asks for experience you do not have yet. The Symrise internships in Isando offer eight different routes into real workplace experience, but the deadlines are not the same. Fragrance Sales Support closes on 28 October 2026, while Production stays open until 30 November. Check your chosen role first, because using the latest date for every application could cost you your chance.
What are the Symrise internships about?
Symrise South Africa is offering internships through the Youth Employment Service (YES) programme. The workplace is in Isando, Kempton Park, in Gauteng. Here is what you need to know at a glance.
- Employer: Symrise South Africa
- Location: Isando, Kempton Park, Gauteng
- Programme: Youth Employment Service (YES) internships
- Routes: Eight role types; the number of places is not stated
- Age: 18 to 29 years
- Closing dates: 28 October to 30 November 2026, depending on the role
- How to apply: Online through each role page on the official Symrise careers site
- Stipend: No amount stated on the role pages
Who can apply?
The screening points shared across these opportunities are:
- You must be between 18 and 29 years old.
- You must be currently unemployed.
- You must not have taken part in YES4Youth before.
- You must have the tertiary background your chosen role requires.
Several role pages ask for South African youth specifically. Read the full eligibility wording on your chosen role, including nationality and qualification rules, before you submit anything.
Students, take note. Some descriptions, such as Maintenance, Production, Marketing and Flavour Sales Support, mention current or final-year students, but also list a completed tertiary qualification under YES eligibility. If you are still studying, ask Symrise to confirm whether you qualify before you assume you do. Never mark an unfinished qualification as completed.
Which internship matches your studies?
Each route has its own requirements and its own deadline. Here is what each one involves.
1. Maintenance Internship
- Diploma or degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Industrial or Electromechanical Engineering.
- Work includes equipment inspections, maintenance planning and fault-finding.
- Useful strengths: basic troubleshooting, safety awareness and Microsoft Office.
This route suits you if you enjoy keeping factory equipment running. Show a relevant engineering project on your CV and explain the problem you helped solve.
2. Production Internship
- Study fields: Production Management, Operations Management or related manufacturing disciplines.
- Also listed: Industrial, Mechanical, Chemical or Manufacturing Engineering, and Food Technology.
- Work includes daily production, food safety and process improvement.
The description mentions recent graduates and final-year students. Check the completed-qualification condition carefully if you have not finished your studies. This role has the latest deadline: 30 November.
3. Administration Internship
- Completed diploma or degree in a business or administration field.
- Fields include Business Administration, Office Management, Public Administration, HR Management, Commerce and Management Assistant.
- Work includes records, meetings, databases and procurement administration.
Student projects or volunteer admin work can show your organisational skills. Previous administrative experience is listed as an advantage.
4. Flavour Sales Support Internship
- Study fields: Commerce, Business Administration, Marketing and Sales Management.
- Also listed: Supply Chain Management, Industrial Psychology, Food Science or related studies.
- Work includes customer data, quotations, flavour samples and project coordination.
This commercial support role works across sales, science and supply chain teams. Show that you handle accurate information, follow up on tasks and communicate well.
5. Marketing Internship
- Study fields: Marketing, Business, Food Science or Consumer Science.
- Work includes consumer research, trend reports and customer presentations.
- You may also help with product showcases, events and digital content.
A good CV example is a research assignment where you studied consumer behaviour and presented a recommendation. Check the qualification wording if you are still studying.
6. Planning Internship
- National diploma, diploma or degree in a planning or business field.
- Fields: Supply Chain, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Operations, Production or Business Management.
- Work includes schedules, inventory, forecasts and materials coordination.
Excel and numerical accuracy matter here. Highlight genuine spreadsheet work involving stock, schedules, calculations or data analysis. This description confirms a 12-month term.
7. Research and Development Internship
- BSc or diploma in Food Science, Food Technology or a related scientific field.
- Also listed: Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Chemical Technology.
- Work includes flavour samples, laboratory trials and sensory evaluation.
This role targets a recent graduate. Use real laboratory coursework to show careful procedures, accurate measurements and reliable technical records. This description also confirms a 12-month term.
8. Fragrance Sales Support Internship
- Completed tertiary qualification; no specific field is required.
- Work includes fragrance samples, quotations, sales reports and customer projects.
Administrative accuracy, communication and Microsoft Office skills are useful strengths. This role has the earliest deadline of all eight: 28 October 2026.
What will you gain from this programme?
A YES internship gives you the workplace experience many employers ask for. You work alongside professionals, learn the daily routines of your field, and build references for your CV. The Planning and Research and Development descriptions confirm 12 months. For the other routes, confirm the duration with Symrise directly, because the same term should not be assumed.
No stipend amount or exact start date is shown on the role pages. The 2026/2027 label does not guarantee a January 2027 start. Ask about the written terms before making travel or money commitments.
How do you apply?
- Choose your role. Make sure your studies match the requirements.
- Open the full description on the official Symrise careers site. If the content is hidden, allow the functional careers content in the cookie settings.
- Check eligibility and the closing date. Sort out any qualification questions before relying on the student wording.
- Select “Apply online” and follow the sign-in or account instructions if prompted.
- Complete the form. Upload the documents the system asks for, and double-check your qualification status, contact details and role choice.
- Submit and save the confirmation or application reference you receive.
Prepare an updated CV and accessible proof of your academic status before you start. The application system decides which documents are required, so this is preparation advice, not a confirmed checklist.
How can you improve your chances?
Many applicants struggle with deadlines because they assume one date covers every role. Here is how to avoid the usual mistakes.
- Apply early. Fragrance Sales Support closes first, and other roles have earlier November dates than Production.
- Tailor your CV to the role. Planning needs spreadsheet examples; Research and Development needs laboratory examples.
- Be honest about your studies. If your qualification is unfinished, clarify the requirement with Symrise first.
- Check your YES history. Previous YES4Youth participants cannot apply, even with a new qualification.
Be honest with yourself about competition. Places are limited, and many young South Africans apply for opportunities like these. A careful, accurate application stands out more than a rushed one.
If you are still comparing options, look at guides such as the Woodlands Dairy Industrial Engineering Internship for factory work, or the MiWay Client Services Internship for a customer-facing route. Always check each opportunity’s own eligibility and closing date.
Questions first-time applicants often ask
Can I apply with only Matric?
No Matric-only route is listed in these eight descriptions. They ask for tertiary qualifications or tertiary study, and several pages add a completed-qualification condition.
I did a YES programme before. Can I apply?
No. These roles exclude previous YES4Youth participants. Holding another qualification does not remove that restriction.
Can I work remotely?
The role pages list Isando and do not promise remote work. Confirm the arrangements with Symrise and plan around the stated workplace.
Is 30 November the deadline for all roles?
No. That is the Production date only. Fragrance Sales Support closes on 28 October, and the other six routes have earlier November dates.
Will I get a permanent job afterwards?
The descriptions do not guarantee permanent employment. Treat the internship as a work-experience opportunity and read the written offer for its exact terms.
What should you do next?
Match your qualification, confirm your YES history, and write down your role’s own deadline. Then adjust your CV to the work that role involves and use its official application page.
If you are still studying, clarify the completion requirement first. Many applicants lose opportunities by assuming they qualify, so one quick question to Symrise can save you weeks. An accurate application gives the company a clear picture of who you are. Check your role, prepare your documents, and take that step today.
