Eskom Electrical Apprenticeships 2027: How to Apply

Eskom is currently recruiting for its Eskom Electrical Apprenticeships 2027. These are three-year artisan training programmes in Limpopo, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, Free State and Northern Cape. At least 10 positions are confirmed. Closing dates fall between 13 and 17 November 2026, depending on the province. If you have a technical qualification and want to train as an electrician, this is a chance to gain workplace experience while working towards a trade test.

What the Eskom Electrical Apprenticeship Is

This is Eskom’s Electrical Artisan Training Programme. It is a formal three-year apprenticeship, not a graduate internship or a general learnership. You will combine classroom training with real work in maintenance and operations. The goal is to build the skills needed for an Electrical Trade Test Certificate. You must still pass the official trade assessments to get the certificate.

The programmes are open in five provinces. Each has its own reference number, closing date and qualification rules. Remuneration is market-related, but the exact amount is not stated. No application fees are charged. Only apply through Eskom’s official recruitment system.

Who Can Apply

You must meet the academic requirements for the specific province you choose. No previous work experience is needed for the Limpopo and Mpumalanga positions. An age limit is not stated in the vacancy notices. Eskom may give preference to candidates from underrepresented groups under its Employment Equity Plan. Persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

You should also be able to show good communication skills, self-discipline, motivation, emotional resilience, safety awareness and basic computer literacy.

What You Gain

Successful applicants receive a structured three-year apprenticeship. This includes institutional electrical training, practical workplace training, exposure to electrical maintenance and operations, and supervised skills development. You work towards preparing for the relevant trade test and an Electrical Trade Test Certificate. Completing the apprenticeship does not automatically guarantee the certificate; you must still meet the assessment requirements.

How to Apply

All applications are done online through Eskom’s official recruitment platform (Eskom Careers). No fees are required.

  1. Choose the province that matches your qualifications and preferred area. Note the reference number and closing date.
  2. Go to the official vacancy page for that reference number on the Eskom Careers site.
  3. Click Apply.
  4. Sign in or create an applicant profile.
  5. Upload your CV. Accepted formats are PDF, DOC, DOCX or TXT. Maximum size is 10 MB.
  6. Fill in all required personal and application information. Have your qualification certificates and subject results ready.
  7. Submit before the provincial closing date.

If you have technical problems with the system, contact candidate support at the email address provided on the Eskom platform. This is only for system help, not for submitting applications.

Closing dates by province: Northern Cape 13 November 2026; KwaZulu-Natal and Free State 16 November 2026; Limpopo and Mpumalanga 17 November 2026. No exact closing times are given. If you receive no response within 28 days after your closing date, consider the application unsuccessful.

Tips to Improve Your Chances

Many applicants miss out because their subject percentages do not match the exact requirements. Meeting the overall qualification is not enough if the stated marks for Mathematics, Engineering Science or English are missing.

Select the correct provincial vacancy. Each has a different reference number and application page. The ordinary Grade 12 route in Northern Cape needs N2 Electrical in addition to Matric; technical Matric options exist in other provinces.

Prepare your CV and supporting documents in advance. Double-check that your qualifications align with the option you choose. Apply early so you have time to fix any system issues.

Competition is real. Eskom receives many applications, and meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee selection.

Next Steps

Review the qualification details for the province you prefer. Gather your certificates and subject results. Then go to the Eskom Careers platform and complete the application for the matching reference number before the closing date. This is a practical route into the electrical trade if your results fit. Take the time to apply correctly and on time.
