Many South African graduates face the same challenge right now. You have your qualification, but every job advert asks for experience you do not yet have. Philip Morris International has opened five internship programmes that could solve this problem immediately. These are not shadowing roles where you simply watch others. You will handle real customers, campaigns, and data projects from your first day.
What Is This Opportunity?
PMI is hiring for five full-time internships through its Early Careers Programme. Each role runs for 12 months and offers a monthly stipend. You can work hybrid, meaning you spend part of the week in the office and part at home. Start dates are immediate.
The available programmes are:
- Key Account Intern (Cape Town)
- Trade Marketing Coordinator Intern (Sandton or Cape Town)
- HR Intern (Cape Town or Johannesburg)
- Brand Management Intern (Cape Town)
- IBP Intern – Supply Chain Analytics & Automation (Cape Town or Johannesburg)
These positions sit within Commercial Operations, Trade Execution, People & Culture, Brand Management, and Supply Chain teams. You will gain practical exposure inside a multinational FMCG environment rather than just observing from the side.
Who Can Apply?
You must be a South African citizen to qualify. You need a completed diploma, national diploma, or bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. The specific field depends on the internship you choose.
PMI requires candidates who have:
- A maximum of two years’ working experience
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken
- The ability to start immediately
- The ability to commit full-time for the full 12 months
Relocation support is not available. You need to be based in or able to travel to the listed cities at your own cost.
What Will You Actually Do?
Each programme offers hands-on work rather than administrative tasks alone.

How to Apply
You must submit your application through PMI’s official online career portal. Search for the specific Req ID numbers listed above to find the correct position.
The closing date displayed is 15 June 2026. However, you should apply as soon as possible. These portals often close early once enough applications are received.
Before you start the form, prepare the following:
- An updated CV in Word or PDF format
- Details of your education history
- Any work experience records
- A list of your skills and technical competencies
- Your LinkedIn profile link
The application form will ask for privacy notice consent. Read this carefully before you agree.
Tips to Improve Your Chances
Many candidates struggle because they send the same generic CV for every role. Do not make this mistake. Match your CV to the specific internship.
If you apply for the IBP role, highlight any exposure to Python, SQL, Power BI, Excel, or data analysis. For the HR internship, emphasize coordination, confidentiality, and communication skills. For commercial roles, show any customer service, admin, or sales support experience. For brand management, mention marketing, research, or presentation work.
Check your contact details twice. Ensure your CV clearly states that you are a South African citizen, you can start immediately, and you can commit to 12 months full-time. Check for spelling errors. Small mistakes create the impression that you lack attention to detail.
Final Steps
These PMI internships offer a genuine entry point into corporate work. You receive a stipend, gain 12 months of credible experience, and earn a respected name on your CV. If you meet the requirements, prepare your documents today. Submit your application through the official PMI career portal before 15 June 2026.
